1983
Melcourt Industries Ltd is incorporated, with a focus on bark mulch, natural play surfaces and all-weather riding surfaces for horses
2001
The Sylvamix range, a unique 100% peat-free professional growing media, is launched
2014
SylvaGrow Multi-Purpose compost makes its debut in the retail market
2015
SylvaGrow earns its first Which? Gardening ‘Best Buy’ – the first of many
2016
Melcourt retail products are uniquely endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS)
2018
Melcourt receives a Royal Warrant from HRH the former Prince of Wales for the manufacture of peat-free Organic Growing Media.
The UK Government sets peat reduction targets in its policy paper, A Green Future: Our 25 Year Plan to Improve the Environment.
2019
A second bagging line is introduced to meet growing demand from stockists
2020
The coronavirus pandemic sees three million new gardeners, helping to drive record sales of SylvaGrow.
2021
Our new computer system integrates all aspects of our business, significantly improving efficiency
2022
A Royal Warrant is awarded to Melcourt by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for the supply of Horticultural Products.
Additional investment includes another fully automated bagging line, and the SylvaGrow range expands with a new Rose, Tree, and Shrub compost.
2023
Melcourt celebrates its 40th anniversary
SylvaGrow Multi-Purpose achieves another Which? Best Buy, this time for Compost for Raising Young Plants.
2024
SylvaGrow 10 year anniversary.
SylvaGrow Tub & Basket and SylvaGrow with added John Innes were recognised as Best Buys by Which? Gardening.
Melcourt becomes a Planet Mark Certified Business.
2025
Melcourt is granted a new Royal Warrant by His Majesty King Charles III for the supply of organic peat-free horticultural products.
Nikki Burton is appointed as our new Managing Director.
Former Managing Director Andy Chalmers becomes company chairman.
Senior Associate Catherine Dawson is awarded the prestigious RHS Veitch Memorial Medal in recognition of her outstanding contribution to horticultural science and sustainability.
