Melcourt were delighted to host a visit from Trudy Harrison MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary at Defra in charge of peat policy.
The Minister was keen to see a peat-free growing media manufacturer and it was a great opportunity for Melcourt to demonstrate their state-of-the-art facilities and to discuss many aspects of the supply of peat-free media to both the professional and amateur markets.
Volume availability of alternatives was high on the agenda for discussion. Melcourt’s Managing Director Andy Chalmers said, ‘In the very week that Melcourt celebrates its 40th anniversary it was an honour for us to host the visit from Minister Harrison. The issues of time-scales for the bans and the availability of alternatives are very pertinent to our business and it was good to be able to demonstrate that commercially competitive, successful peat-free production is not only possible but happening on a significant scale with our long-established peat-free media.’
