Seiont Nurseries, who grow all their production in Melcourt growing media, has an order going to The Falkland Islands later this week which is probably the furthest Melcourt material of this kind has travelled. The plants, in 9cm pots for growing on for retail, are primarily new varieties and include the following which are all UK bred:
Escallonia Golden Carpet (the first new variety Seiont grew from start to finish as a peat-free product in Melcourt growing medium),
Hebe Champion,
Fox Series Heuchera Thomas, Slaters Pink and Silver Celebration which was launched at RHS Chelsea by breeders Plantagogo 2015, and
Cordyline Pink Passion, Seiont’s biggest selling variety.
The journey to the Falkland Islands will take six weeks with the plants travelling in a temperature controlled container. “This is the first order of its kind for us but we’re hoping that more will follow,” says Seiont’s Neil Alcock. We do too of course!
